What we do, and who we do it for.
Incept Legal is a boutique law firm in New Delhi. Our partners specialise in regulatory law and practise before the Supreme Court of India, the High Courts across the country and the specialist tribunals and commissions. They are Advocates-on-Record of the Supreme Court.
Our partners advise corporates and multinationals, public sector undertakings and government organisations, State utilities and generators, banks and insurers. Their expertise runs across diverse practice areas and sectors: regulatory proceedings and the appeals that follow them; company law, insolvency, arbitration and commercial disputes; and the compliance mandates that now reach every board, the labour codes and the Digital Personal Data Protection Act among them.
Advice is written to be acted on: the position, the risk, the options, the recommendation. Where the law is genuinely unsettled we say so and set out the posture we would defend.
Partner-led from first call to final order
The partner who scopes a mandate conducts it. Associates research, draft and prepare the matter under that partner’s direction, and you will often deal with them day to day — but the file is never passed down and forgotten. If responsibility moves, you are told why and to whom.
A view, not a survey
Our advice states a position and the confidence we hold it with. Where the law is genuinely unsettled we say so plainly and set out the posture we would defend — which is more useful than a list of every argument available to both sides.
Fees agreed before the work starts
Fixed and capped fees wherever the scope permits, retainers where the relationship is ongoing, and hourly rates disclosed in advance where it does not. Scope changes are discussed before they are incurred.
Confidentiality treated as an operating constraint
Client information is held under privilege and under the firm’s own data protection programme. We apply to ourselves the standards we ask our clients to meet, including retention limits on closed files.

Where we are
We are based in the National Capital Region, within reach of the Supreme Court, the High Court and the principal tribunals. Our partners are Advocates-on-Record, so a matter need not change hands when it reaches the Supreme Court.

Where a matter falls outside our partners’ own practice, we introduce counsel we know rather than passing the client through a chain of introductions.

International clients
We act as India counsel to foreign companies and to overseas law firms, on entry structuring, ongoing compliance, contracting and the disputes that follow. Instructions are taken in English and correspondence is kept to the point.
Work we take on because it should be done
Pro bono
The firm commits partner and associate time each year to matters taken without fee — typically for non-profit organisations, and for individuals in matters concerning data, dignity and access to services.
Teaching and writing
We publish our analysis openly rather than reserving it for clients, and we speak at law schools and industry forums on data protection. Our Insights section is written by the lawyers who do the work.
